About Level 1

The purpose of Level 1 is to help you master basic swim, bike, and run skills — and then help you put it all together to successfully complete a triathlon.

Who joins Level 1?

  • Are you curious about what it takes to do a triathlon?
  • Are you a swimmer or runner wishing to learn to bike so you can try a tri?
  • Are you a duathlete who’s not attempted a tri due to lack of swimming skill?
  • Do you have little time to train or are returning to tri with little fitness?
  • Have you tried a tri with little guidance and now want to learn do it right?

If your answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then Team Sheeper Level 1 is for you. Team Sheeper offers Level 1 for those completely new to sports and exercise. It’s also for those with a sports background but are new to swimming, cycling, or running. The only prerequisites are curiosity about triathlon and desire for a healthy, athletic lifestyle.

 


Coaching and Workouts

Hani Juha

Our Level 1 coach is Hani Juha. Hani is interested in both the mental and physical aspects of endurance sports performance. He has experience working with all abilities and age levels and is passionate about helping people discover triathlon and learn to be healthy and balanced athletes. Workouts

Two weekly workouts are dedicated to Level 1. On Tuesday evenings at 5:45pm, we gather at the pool or nearby venue for a run workout with stretching and core. On Saturday mornings at 8:30am, we bring bikes to the pool for a team ride that lasts from 2-3 hours and may be followed by a clinic or additional skills work.

How do I get started?

  1. Write to Hani Juha, our Level 1 coach and mentor. He can answer your specific questions about the program.
  2. Come to our Tuesday night run workout to see how a typical training session works and meet your Level 1 teammates.
  3. Come to the Saturday morning bicycle ride. Coach Hani will help you learn the basics of road cycling, coach you through 2-3 hour rides, and provide post-ride clinics to help make sure that you are progressing as a cyclist.
  4. Write to information to set up a meeting with Tim Sheeper. Every new member, including Level 1, gets a 1-on-1 with Tim so that he can get to know you and see how the team can best serve your needs. You may also call 650-328-SWIM (650-328-7946).

The Team Sheeper pricing structure and workout schedule are designed for flexibility. We are all busy, with full lives that can make fitting in training and racing a challenge. The team encourages balance and creating your best schedule for your own best results. This means that there are a lot of membership choices — you get to choose your membership level and the workouts you attend.

Included with membership

Level 1 is a part of Team Sheeper, so you can enjoy the support of a group of triathletes of all levels and learn from those with experience. However, Level 1 coaching and workouts are for beginners, with additional instruction and attention. You’ll benefit greatly from your own community of athletes who train, learn, and have fun together!

  • Two Level 1 specific workouts per week and a dedicated Level 1 coach
  • Access to all of Team Sheeper and Menlo Masters workouts, which includes 11 tri workouts plus 21 swims per week (Level 1 Full membership)
  • Team competitive events, fun activities, tours, camps, and social events. Note that some events have extra costs, such as for sag, lodging, and meals
