Mt. Charley Grinder October 23 Information

To all the Grinders:

The long awaited information is available for Saturday's ride.

Start Time:    9:00 AM

Start Place:   Hiway 9 and Skyline Blvd (Hiway 35) parking lot. Carpool if possible.  The Beast will depart from Burgess at 8:05 AM, I have room for 7 riders with bikes.

Ride distance: 52 miles

Elevation:     Lots, it is hilly that is why we call it a Grinder.

Bike:          Road bike preferred, but tri will work as well.

Difficulty:    High-all riding is in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Course:        South on Skyline, Left on Bear Creek, Right on Upper East Zayante, Left on Mt. Hermon, Left on Bean Creek, Becomes Glenwood, which becomes Mtn. Charlie, Left on Summit, Right on Bear Creek, Left on Montevina, Left on Black, Left on Gist, Right on Skyline back to the parking lot.

Estimated Time: 4 hours maximum

Maps:  Basic photocopied maps without mileage, elevation or a turn list will be handed out on Saturday morning in the parking lot.  Rustic but functional.

Add on:  If you would like to make it a 100+ mile day, begin at Burgess and Climb Highway 9.  Allow yourself 2 hours to get to the Hiway 9 parking lot from Burgess.

Sag:   Not available.  Services in Felton.

Did You Know:  Mt. Charlie parallels East Zayante and Hiway 17 up the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Why:  Because it is a good challenge and most of us have never met Mtn. Charlie.
